Alphabet Poetry Series: “M is for March”

Go, go
Go with the beat

Up, up
Up on your feet

Left, left
Left, right, left

March, march
March to your fall

Hear, hear
Hear the devil’s call

Left, left
Left, right, left

Step, step
Step closer to death

Hold, hold
Hold your last breath

Left, left
Left, right, left

Look, look
Look straight ahead

Go, go
Go with the dead.

Alphabet Poetry Series: K is for Keeper

there was never a doubt in my mind
that we are all here for a reason
but even if we know it or not
we hope to last more than a season

and we live so recklessly today
that we forget about tomorrow
and we hold on to happier times
so we don’t have to face the sorrows

but we have no control over life
no, not of our own’s or another’s
all we can do is beg for more time
hope against all odds for a keeper

please, let her stay
please, let her stay

I’m not ready for her to go away
let me keep her another million days

Alphabet Poetry Series: “J is for Jailbird”

Laughter fills this place
little feet running
to and fro
screams of delight
lullabies
impromptu dancing
in the living room
vrrroooming cars
giggles over silliness
read alouds
piano practice
laughter fills this place
jailbird
but I am just a jailbird
looking past
vertical shadows
of chains
I fly but
crash my wings
I can only listen
as I perch
on the swing
on the beam
on the water bowl
and look forward
to someday
I can leave
for the skies.
