“The Veteran”

Day 11 of 2012 November PAD challenge.

For this post, I was sort of inspired after watching an episode of “Jericho” on Netflix. 😉

Don’t Tread On Me”

Don’t tread on me
I’m more than you see

This eyesight that is almost gone
Have seen countless red dawns

My shaking, aching hands
Have protected your precious lands

This bent and broken back
Endured sleeping in frozen shacks

My tired and swollen feet
Never settled for defeat

The scars all over my body
Souvenirs of battles that are bloody

My mind that screams in the night
Organized many victorious fights

Don’t tread on me
I’m more than you see

I’m why you’re free…

“Foreign Word”

Day 10 of 2012 November PAD challenge.

I am fluent in both English and Tagalog. I can read and write in both.

I’ve also taken French and Spanish classes. I barely remember French; I only know those Spanish words which Tagalog originated from.

But there’s one language I’ve been taking for 2 years now. Six years ago, I took it for 2 years also. Next year, I will take it again for another 2 years…

That will be a total of 6 years…and still…I can’t decipher it!

Foreign Word

You sure talk funny
with your squeals and babbling
I wonder what you feel
and what you’re thinking

You have your own language
though sometimes I understand you
It’s hard to decipher your words
So I just look at what you do

There’s really no way of figuring out
Exactly what you are
Toddler… what a foreign word,
and a beautiful star!

“When He’s Gone”

Day 9 of the 2012 November PAD Challenge

When He’s Gone”

Rivers will continue their endless running
The sun will not cease from shining
The moon will still cling to the sky
Flowers and fields won’t wither and die

Ships will keep sailing on
The fog will still come every dawn
The harvest season will come ’round once more
Waves won’t stop lapping on the sea’s shores

The world will still stay the same
Though it will no longer utter his name
And me, I will go on and on
Even later, when he’s gone.

“Circular”

Day 7 of the 2012 November PAD Challenge

“Circular”

bubbles and balloons
a happy face
and the moon

my wedding ring
a volleyball
and a tire swing

an angel’s halo
a silver dollar
and a ball of snow

warm apple pie
milk chocolate malt balls
and an Oreo cookie

Geez!
I sure do love
circular things!
