Amnesia

AMNESIA

Why can’t I remember the way you smelled

the way you felt, the things you said

the day that grandpa died

When you held me to you

The only hug I can salvage from my past?

Why can’t I remember what you said the first day of kindergarten

When I slapped the teacher’s face

and squirmed out of her arms

Like a bar of wailing, wet soap slipping down the street ?

Why don’t I know how you felt those many years I left you longing for your son

In the silent house, that empty room,

With your restless maternal hands

Grasping at the ghosts in my room?

Why can’t I remember what you said that final Sunday

When your voice scratched across the miles

A phone line heavy with forgotten words

In a moment that will never be again?

Why can’t I remember?

Facebook Brain

cell phone in the morning
soon as I open my eyes
gotta check that facebook
twitter
google
instagram

tablet at breakfast
to read the news
to read the latest gossip
in magazines
on the net
and again, facebook

lunch time already
gotta log in
share a pic of my lunch
drink
dessert
and oh, check facebook

after work, finally
gotta drive home
better check the traffic
on my phone
check if my friends
are out of work too
better see their status
on facebook

Yes, home!
turn on the computer
skype a little bit
print out a recipe
take a pic
look, I cooked dinner
what did everyone else make?
I wonder if they posted
their dinner
on facebook?

so tired
time for bed
but i wonder who’s still
on facebook
I’ll just take a little peek
and check…

Alphabet Poetry Series: “I is for Inspire”

{This poem is also “inspired” by today’s prompt on dVerse: “on the other hand.”}

people look for leaders
even unintentionally
and some leaders lead
with a heavy hand
and some laissez-faire
and no one stops
to think about
where these leaders
get their ideas

or maybe they know
that’s why they follow

It’s from the Good Book
you see
though it’s a matter
of interpretation
who’s really the
authority

There is a leader
inspired by the Holy Spirit
and leads his flock
on a humble path
on faith
on hope
on love

on the other hand

There is a leader
inspired by his god
and leads his pack
on a prideful path
on mistrust
on despair
on hate

so sad
some people don’t see
the other side
inspire

Alphabet Poetry Series: “H is for Heritage”

(Warning: Graphic images after the poem.)

no more dolphins
no more whales
no more eagles
only tales

no more trees
no more fresh air
no more fresh water
only litter

no more babies
no more daughters
no more prayers
only haters

this is the heritage
we leave behind
I’m so very sad
for humankind
