Alphabet Poetry Series: “A is for Address”

Past the pothole
on the middle right
side of the road
right before the
yellow awning house
turn left
then slow for the
kids always playing
hockey on the road
turn right
cruise along for a while
admire the juniper trees
and dodge the tumbleweeds
the blind turn
the burnt evergreen
a dirt road
to nowhere it seems
but
I know it’s there
The place where you live
The place I can’t go
though I pass by
a hundred times a day
just outside my reality
your address.

You’re So Full Of It!

energy to run around the first floor of the house
voice to sing and whine
strength to climb up and down the stairs
– a hundred times

charm to woo strangers at the store
sweetness to make new friends anywhere
smarts to get anything you want at all
– a thousand times more

where do you get
all of everything
and how do you keep
from exploding
because you’re so full of it

so full of everything nice
and all things loving
and all sorts of wonderful
and all kinds of amazing
– a bazillion times galore

my boy
my boy
how can there
possibly be more

yet each day
you grow
and show me
all the ways
you’ve become
more beautiful than before
– a gazillion squared, times four

I Watched You Grow

I watched you grow

so fast

so fast

And wondered

how I could stop time

Because I love you

too much

too much

To let you blossom

bigger than my arms

But you are

my sun

my sun

In the darkest of days

And you make me happy

all the seconds of every day.

Happy Birthday My Little One

New Arrival

I’m so very late for the party. Poetry Challenge 2013 is 10 days well under way, and here I am with the first one. Oh well. Better late than never. (Who said that anyway?)

NEW ARRIVAL

appointments dropped
a whole week cleared
shifts rescheduled
sick days redeemed
food delivered
Starbucks made more dough
neither cops nor rain
couldn’t make them go
fights broke out
pushed and shoved
just for the new arrival
of the iPhone that they loved
